Finance Agent

A private, local-first personal-finance agent that turns scattered accounts into plain-language answers — and a place to pressure-test the hype around AI in personal finance with my own money as the test set.

The counterpart to Coach Rob: same discipline, applied to a domain where trust and privacy are everything.

What it feels like
where did the extra $600 go last month? Two one-offs: an annual insurance renewal ($420) and a flight ($180). Recurring spend was flat vs. your 3-month average. am i on track to cover Q3 taxes? At current set-aside you're ~$1,100 short of the estimate. Bumping the monthly transfer to $900 closes it by September.
Principles
Private

Local-first, my data stays mine

Financial data is the most sensitive there is. It's built to keep that data under my control, not shipped off to someone else's model to train on.

Honest

Shows its work

Every answer traces back to the transactions behind it. No black-box "trust me" numbers — the point is judgment you can check.

Plain

Answers, not dashboards

Ask a question in words, get an answer in words. The agent does the joining and categorizing so I don't spelunk spreadsheets.

Skeptical

A hype detector

Building it is how I learn where AI in personal finance is genuinely useful versus a confident-sounding liability. Real stakes, real feedback.
